Do I need a spill tray on a battery mounted internally or externally?

Batteries installed internally or externally must be in a battery compartment (even an open container) that includes a spill tray and ventilation; (can be open to the environment) but still including a spill tray.
See clauses 5.4.12.2 (d) for Lithium and clauses 5.4.11.2.3 and 5.4.11.2.1 for Lead acid / GEL / AGM.
